I'm really interested in the new Steam OS. I will give it a solid try and maybe won't se Windows anymore - tbh games and a couple of other apps I already invested in are the only reason to stick to Windows for me. But I can do without bloatware, monitoring, required settings, lack of control about my os.

When Windows 8 came out I said I would never support Windows 8. I haven't. Never in MS history have I been so angry towards them. I'm finished. This machine and OS will be my last MS product. If I ever decide to build another PC, it will not have a Windows OS on it.

They didn't say but we all know why - to force you to upgrade both hardware and Windows. Less hardware to support = easier to maintain, it's a both a good and a bad thing.

Only one year to work out the Win11 bugs? Keep in mind that with every update Windows 10 introduces new bugs while patching old ones. It seems to be a never ending cycle. I don't expect any OS to ever be bug free.

Software is never completed it's only released.

It's only different in the name.
Windows 11 is free upgrade from W10 and is basically a feature update to W10 hence why all your W10 apps and drivers should work out of the box.

M$ not providing updates to a Windohs 11 install on unsupported hardware sounds like the best of the new features in Windohs 11 and a compelling reason to update to/install Windohs 11 to me.

I don't know why people would expect this, it happens all the time in the industry. Backporting seems a bad decision business-wise since customers will stick to the old and trusted platform.

Having been a windows guy since 3.11 I switched over to Apple this year. It took 3 weeks of struggle to get nearly 3 decades of muscle memory to adapt to a new system but now I see why those who use it love it. It's analogy would be windows 7, a year over year polishing and refining of a competent and useful UI. Win 8 pissed me off and Win10 tried to pretend it didn't suck so much anymore but still gimped. Since Win11 is a forced hardware update, I figured I would try something new. They give you a spreadsheet and word processor for free along with a competent email app, so I am done with a yearly subscription to office now too. Even foobar2000 works.
I am sure there will be things along the way that I will miss, but so far I am actually happy to be done with MS.

Yet in my case, Win10 will be the last version I run. I am not updating to the broken POS they call 11 as they didn't push the hardware requirements far enough to really be useful. First of doubling from 2 to 4GB of Ram? You can't even get 1 or 2GB Sticks any longer. They should have gone with what's the current sweet spot of 16GB or at least 8GB as the minimum which would be a pair of 4GB Sticks. I can understand the TPM and Secure Boot as MS has been pushing the Trusted Computing Platform since the mid 90's but once again, it's all about them controller the hardware you purchased and they can forget about me being another drone. Remember those Borg Icons for Bill Gates? It's endemic to Microsoft that you will be assimulated so I'm opting out even if I have to nuke and puke ever computer in the house.

Now if they provide me with a 128 Core ThreadRipper, 2TB of System Memory, 1 Pettabyte of Storage, Warp Drive, Holodeck and replicators then I'll gladly join the collective but that's the minimum I want to become a drone.

The only reason I boot into windows these days is for online games with DRM that doesn't work with linux. Needless to say, they basically all do these days. The only other game I'm sort of interested in right now is final fantasy 14. Which, now that I think about it, I might download and see how it plays with linux

Then you've never used MS-DOS 3.3 because that OS was 100% bug-free. Then they came out with MS-DOS 4.0 and that was the end of that.

What play? This is a free upgrade right and you can use Windows 10 if you don't want to buy new hardware? Even your explanation is, that to understand the bashing of Microsoft people should have been around back in the nineties, so basically you don't even offer an explanation, because there is none. The hating and bashing for the sake of it is one explanation I tend to believe in, since companies always market their stuff by exaggerating and anybody's favourite company is no different. Power up your Mac and chill out is what I recommend.

Well the idea would be at some point the game would only run when in a fully trusted os.

Again that won't happen immediately but eventually you would expect games trying to use TPM security as a feature to protect against cheaters to eventually only allow it to run on o/s that enforces it.

Have they fixed the bug where if you drag windows with file explorer in the background the mouse lags when at high polling rate(500hz+)? It's pretty frustrating.
