Missing shell32.dll in WinXP Media Edition

  1. HELP!!! I am not very computer savvy, so please be kind.... my computer cannot boot because my shell32.dll cannot be found and the message is to try and reinstall shell32.dll.....but HOW???

I can get into C:/ prompt with boot disk, and also into safe mode, but all I can see in safe mode is a black screen and the writing "safe mode" in the four corners of screen. I still have access to keyboard and mouse.

I do know how to rewrite hard drive with Sony Vaio Recovery CD, but would rather not use this option as I have much that is important on my hard drive.

Please Please help with another option ..... maybe like copying shell32.dll back on????
    Thank you!!! :)
