Yesterday, my computer starting acting crazy. When I boot windows XP, it appears to boot normally and right before the desktop loads, the screen goes black. The monitor light goes from green to amber. I can tell the computer is still operating, just I have no monitor. I can go into safe mode and boot or boot with VGA and get a monitor, however when I adjust the display settings to the appropriate settings the monitor goes black again. I have reinstalled my GeForce video driver and reinstalled my monitor driver but the problem still exits. My wife was using the system when it began malfunctioning. She said the mouse froze and so she rebooted, then the monitor issue began. Please help, any suggestions.

Try hooking up the monitor to another computer & see if it works properly at its recommended resolution.
