Motorola modem wont connect to laptop but will on another one?

hi my advent 7011 wont connect to my motorola modem but will connect to my other compact laptop using the same cable its (ono)a spanish company as i live in spain any ideas i guess it has to be a configuration problem but no idea what it can be cheers royalmailman1...

Cable modem or telephone modem. Operating system?
Generally, for either one, it is a driver install issue. Perhaps we can help if you tell us the exact model and version of hardware and firmware. It should be on the back or bottom of the device.

hi its a motorola sb4200 surboard cable modem and i have microsoft xp home edition version 2002,I have the instalation disc here with the usb drivers but when it gets to detecting the modem it fails if it is a driver falt where can i download it (not to great with my pc knowleadge ah)cheers royalailman1

Be sure you have removed completely all the old installs and drivers.
The 4200 Surfboard was not good even when it was new... Any chance you can change it?

sms wireless usb adapter not picking up router ...

hi again after i couldnt get my laptop to work on the router i decided to buy a smc usb adapter today to plug in to the laptop trouble is it wont pick up the smc router although the signal i have coming from the laptop is great any idea what this could be?its got to be i guess a configuration problem cause i have my other laptop with a card picking up a great signal in the other room any advice would be great as usual thanks mate ..

Uhhh.... The Motorola SB4200 only provides for wired connections by either ethernet cable or over USB cable. Are you using the ethernet connections? You should be using the ethernet cable and look in Device Manager to verify the Ethernet controller/Network adapter appears and no red or yellow icons in Device Manager

hi ill try to descibe what ive got in one room ive got a laptop which is connected to a smc barricade router from it there is a ethernet cable going into the laptop, and from the laptop to router a usb cable that goes to the motorola modem this works fine with the pc in another room that ive put a pc card in no problems,the 3rd laptop i have i put a smc usb adapter to connect with the main motorola/smc router from this laptop i have a really good signal almost 100% it says its found the router from the laptop but when i try to open internet explorar it says page not found this happens with all the pages i try to open,ive had a look in device manager and all comes up ok no questions marks or anything,i guess theres some configuration problem with the first laptop cause it connects ok but not with my laptop which i put the pin in is there anything i can do regarding configeration that is stoping the conection cheers ...
