Mouse not working

    I have a Dell Vostro 200 running Windows XP. I bought a new keyboard and mouse but when it loads up the keyboard and mouse don't work. I tried connecting it to the internet so it could obtain the drivers automatically but that didn't work. I then tried to start in safe mode they still didn't work. I checked the BIOS and the USB was enabled. I ran Hiren's boot CD and both the mouse and keyboard work on the Hiren's mini XP OS. I'm stumped can anyone help me please.

    UPDATE*
    I tried both rebooting to last know good config and restoring to an earlier config, neither worked. I am now downloading an XP ISO to try and use it to repair the OS on the PC.
