My computer will only save images as .bmp!?!

I am running windows XP home and all of a sudden for the past week or so my computer will only give me the option to save an image as a bitmap (which actually gives me no option!) even if I am positive the image was originally a JPEG or another format. I am simple but yes I checked the drop-down menu . It is really cramping my style. Can anyone help? Many Thanks in advance!!

I assume your talking about Internet Explorer (Right Click, Save As), because I have seen this happen. If thats the case, clear your IE cache.
