My disc detector for my DVD drive is not working?

Hello, I am a Windows Xp User and it appears that my Disc Detector is not working properly and was wondering if anyone could help me fix it.
-Yes My Disc Detector is Enabled.
-Whenever i put in a disc into my DVD drive, my mouse gets the mouse/disc spinning icon... but when i go to My Computer, it doesnt show a disc in the drive.
Can someone help me with this?

Chances are your rom is bad. Try cleaning the optical lens with cd rom cleaner. If that doesn't work you will probably need to replace the drive. Sorry!

If you want a second opinion, I agree with ruready2. In fact, I had that very thing happen to me last week. I replaced it with a spare DVD burner and I was back in business.
