Need for Speed Underground 2

I recently bought a new copy of Need for Speed Underground 2 for my Playstation 2. You know, for nostalgic purposes. And I ran into a little problem. I got as far as Bayview and for some reason I keep running into loading screens when I try to race or just drive around in Bayview. I have started a new game and tried a few other things. Nothing has worked thus far. If anyone has encountered this problem and has found a way to fix it please let me know how you fixed it.
