Here's the info I found on it:

Athlon XP (Thoroughbred)
Max Spd 825 Mhz
Family.Model.Step 7.8.1
u.13
L2 Cache 256 kbytes

Is this a 2000+? 2200+? 2400+? Is it the step that determines that?

That's what I'm needing to know. Thanks!

nope. none of them. Just an Athlon. (The beginning of the series)

The original Athlons went up to 1.6 ghz. Some were less at 800mhz. Many were 1.4 ghz. Then they were called the XP series after that and went up even more.

Ok, forget about the Mhz (I'm confused about that too). This is definitely an Athlon XP T-bred. I was just wondering if there is a way to ID this particular one w/o taking off the heatsink.

Mhz / Ghz merely refers to the clock speed of the CPU. But there are many other factors that affect speed as well in a CPU. Generally the faster the clock, the faster the CPU, but this is not true always.

With the XP SERIES cpus, the name of the CPU was matched to indicate a speed comparison to Intel competition CPUs. an ATHLON XP 3200+ was equivelent to an Intel running at 3.2 Ghz. This is NOT TRUE for the Athlon X2 series CPUs. The name means nothing - just a model #.
