need help with video card

wattaya mean 3d is renderred? i wanna play counterstrike:source. will that freeze it? and as for the sound, whenever i demand stuff from my comp it makes a sound while its doin it. its like a slight-grinding-ish sound.

When i say 3D, is whenever your video card renders 3d images, when you play games.
X1600's like to do that.

The sound you say, may be a capacitor, but i'm not very sure. Try to locate where it comes from.

I forgot about the issue with the X1600's otherwise I wouldn't have posted that one. The X800 GTO would be my top choice in the group I sent you, followed by the 6800XT. All of the cards I mentioned will work for what you want to do, though.

The best card would be the X800GTO, is faster than the 6800XT and the X1600 PRO, and doesn't have the frezzing issue.

I wouldn't think that you would need to go that far. I would skip the cooler until you know if you will even need it. Also, leave the case closed and just monitor your temps and open one side of the case if needed. But if everything is operating as it should, you won't need to remove the panel.

You can monitor the temp using Speed Fan or Everest Ultimate. Software temps aren't very reliable, but they give you an idea on how hot the pc is running.

I would open the case when my CPU temp reaches 60°C or the case temp is above 45°C.

And I think you don't need a cooler for the X800GTO. My particular card came with a good cooler. This is the cooler I've got, but this is a Powercolor PCI-E card, I'm not very sure about the AGP one.

Use CPU-Z to tell u ur AGP slot speed and ur AGP version. Click the Mainboard tab and the two I just mentioned will be under the Graphic Interface headline. I think SpeedFan also does this but I'm not sure.

Yes, you could. A 8X card like the X800GTO is backwards compatible with th 4X slot.

didn't the latest catalyst driver take care of the 3d rendering problem. I believe it was the 6.6 catalyst released in June. I could be wrong though.

Correction, the box should say AGP 4x/8x. Only then will it work in an AGP 4x slot.

should i buy a new memory set? i believe i want more than 512. maybe 1G? could i just buy 1 stick of 512 to match my stick of 512? its PC2700. or at least thats wat CMOS told me.

Yes u can but just make sure it's the same speed(and brand preferably) as the other stick that is installed.
Also, if the motherboard supports dual-channel RAM, then u will get better performance with a dual-channel kit from a reputed company like OCZ or Corsair. I'm guessing it won't since it's not a custom build but I could be wrong.
