Need to reinstall XP

Dell 4550 P-4 w/120g hd kept hanging up regardless of what I tried. Would freeze up during loadind. I attached the drive to my computer through USB to separate HD cable and formated the drive. It was loaded to the max with viri. My question is, how can I get the reinstall disk (Dell) to be recognized for boot. I've gone into setup and made boot sequence for CD checked and top of the list. It is now saying NTLDR missing and it's driving me crazy. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello! Welcome to TechSpot

When formatting a drive I use this:
"fdisk.exe /mbr"
You must have fdisk.exe on the floppy to
do this. Type only what is between the "".
I'm assuming you have already re-formatted.
Did you fdisk re-partion?

Didn't re-partition. Having a heck of a time. Trying to find my partition magic now. Thanks.

MBR is master boot record.
fdisk/ mbr will restore it.
Tho I don't think partition magic will.
it must be fdisk from windows OS.
A simple repartitioning w/ partition magic may well fix this.

Thanks for the help. Will see if I can find a disk.
