Netflix hikes prices across the board for US subscribers

You can add My Name to that list of great Netflix content. Still, at $20 per month, it is getting to the "Not worth it" zone of streaming services. $20 works for my family because there are 5 different users.

If it were just me, I would have left at anything over $15 per month for 4K.

I actually have the normal 1080p plan: 4k would be nice but is not worth the extra money, 1080p will do and once is video content upscaled to a 4k screen it looks good enough on a living room situation anyway.

You need a TV licence to cover anything that is capable of receiving live TV and this incudes live streamed TV. So if you had a monitor with no tuner and Netflix you would not need one, if you had a monitor with no tuner and Prime Video then you would as Prime video includes live broadcasts.

That is incorrect, you can have a TV with a tuner, it just cannot be plugged in. You definitely don't need a TV license to use Prime Video, that's also nonsense.

The only time you need a TV license is if you use an aerial to get publically broadcasted TV or to use BBC iPlayer, other players though (itv player, C4 player etc...) You can use without a license. Remember, the license is for broadcast and BBC only, all other streaming services don't get s penny of that license.

I would do the same but we actually do have concurrent streaming. 4 users at the same time does happen on the weekends.

Nope, you have to apply for it (a "no license needed" declaration) but you have absolutely no legal obligation to pay for a TV license, it directly goes to the BBC and it's been through the government several times in recent years to abolish it. The BBC just isn't what it used to be.

Of course, if your TV is connected to an Ariel or you want to use BBC iPlayer then sure, you have to pay for a license, but apart from that, no license needed, that does mean you are allowed to use all other streaming and catch-up services in existence.

Am I being dumb or did Numbersix kinda say the opposite to you, the whole bbci player I can skip sure. Amazon prime however I do use that for "the boys". I can go to free sources I guess and go back to the long ago.

End of the day streaming services will all outgrow their small beginnings, misread their worth, overcharge loyal customers, for worsening content.
It is kinda sad that all the good stuff was done in the 80's and 90's. It's all just rehashed.

As much as The Matrix 4 was the worst sequel ever, I think that the director actually hit the nail on the head, as a sequel for this "we will accept or swallow just about anything" generation.

To be charging increased fees in the middle of a pandemic and with no end of people in financial difficulty or without jobs shows how tone deaf Netflix, and many others like Nvidia, truly are. Greed seems to ooze out of every pore of these people.

I think you forget that these items and services are a "luxury" not a necessity in life. Greed or not every company is going to do the same thing to maximize profits all the pandemic has done is accelerate the affordability gap between middle - lower class luxury purchases. It's no different than eating out at a restaurant which is absurd compared to pre covid. Most places marked up 25% upwards to 50%, yet most people forget its a "luxury" to eat out, not a necessity.

For a service that boasts having thousands of movies, it never seems to have what I want to watch- and normally those are nostalgic faves from the 80's and 90's. Most of them are only available on DVD. DVD!?!

Netflix decided to destroy viewers' favorable opinion of The Witcher series? It became known that Netflix has made a spin-off of The Witcher: Blood Origin. As I said, the license fee doesn't go to channel 4 or itv, it keeps the public broadcasting infrastructure going and then the BBC.

I've never paid the TV licence, I'm a proper millenial, never paid it and don't plan on ever. BBC although they make some great TV series, I can't get past the decades of hiding and protecting pedophiles.

I cancelled NETFLIX 2 years ago and still use AMAZON PRIME VIDEO. Most movies and shows are free since I'm a member and if you choose not to have same day shipping they actually give you free digital money and use it to rent or own new movies. You get like $1-$3 back and looking at my past I got $300+ in free movies. What's the sacrifice? Waiting an extra 2-4 few days on shipment.

Nothing touches Amazon Video. HULU is a joke and cancelled them as well.

I still use Netflix more than I use Amazon and Disney put together. I just can't find anything I would like on Amazon. It may be the algorithm isn't quite caught up on the things I watch yet. so it may improve. Then again, if Netflix in the UK gets a price increase too I may have to cancel other subscriptions

Well, as a Canadian I think that's it for me. I get it, Netflix is struggling with all it's NA competition, but there simply isn't enough new content to justify being the most expensive streaming option. I think I'll wait until they increase my rate and then cancel so there's an obvious cause and effect for them to ponder. Might re-sub for a binge watch every now and then, but I've been a subscriber since 2013 and I'm getting tired of being gouged while they keep cancelling all the content I actually enjoy...
