Hi, I created a simple home network between my new HP Laptop with Windows Vista and my HP desktop that runs with Windows XP. I can access all the files and everything on the laptop from the desktop but when I try to access the desktop or printer (from the laptop) I am asked for a username and password. The laptop is connected to the internet through the router so it's not the router encryption and I have not set password or even enabled the password protection on file sharing. Any ideas?

You must have set up an account on the XP desktop which is password protected: use this password when prompted.
