Network very slow

I have two pc's in a network - 80mega and 40 mega . I bought a zonet cable router - it allows internet sharing but the speed is terrible . How can I fix this ?
I am running xp on both computers - everything pings etc just the speed is awfull !!

Could specify a few things...
What exactly is slow?...downloading or just plain opening pages?...could you give an idea of how fast you can download a file from...say download.com(or another reliable fast download site)?
Also, are you connecting via wireless nic or via cables? What is you connection speed?
And when you say cable router, do you mean the router and cable modem are combined in one?
If you transfer files directly from one computer to the other is it also slow?

Just give us a little better idea of the situation and I am sure someone will be able to help.

slow network

When my 2 computers are connected thru a cable modum opening up web sites becomes very tedious - must repeat 2 or 3 times . Downlading from download com usuaully freezes in the middle . When connected directly to the modum i.e. not thru the router everytning is fine . One computer connected thru the router things are okay but not as fast - 2 computers connected thru the router and everything mobes at a snails pace. The router is a zonet cable router - then wan is connected to the computer and each comp connected to the router

could you specify what model? and have you tried a google search on it?
