Hi,

I bought a new PC a few months back.. it came with Windows Vista which wouldn't allow me to do what I wanted so I tried to reformat and install a legit XP home.

However the PC will now no longer boot. It says;

'
Disk Read Error
Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.
'

Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever get to use XP home or did it say that error from the start of XP install, if you have used xp it could be somthing you installed in xp.

Does the BIOS detect your HDD?
Also have you tried the repair feature on the XP install disk

Make sure your floppy DISK is out of the drive, or turn your floppy drive off (inside the BIOS) completely. If that doesnt work then you may have to slave it in another computer to backup your data and then reformat :(

-Never used XP Home on my new computer
-I don't know if the BIOS detects my HDD; I would guess not
-I tried the repair feature but it doesn't help

Thanks a lot for the replies.
