Hi all,
I have just assmebled a new PC.
SKT775 motherboard, 3Ghz P4 531, 1GB RAM, DVD drive, SATA HDD

I booted it to try and install windows XP home and after a short time it hung during installation. I tried re-booting and this time it got slightly further but hung again. After a few more goes it eventualy managed to install XP but now I have it up it will freeze after its been running for a few mins.

Incidentally, it also hangs when I try and install ubuntu and I've never managed to get that installed.

I've reseated/reconnected the RAM, CPU, HDD, DVD drive but still no change. I've also tried a different stick of RAM but not change.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be? I've wondered if it might the CPU over heating, but it has a very large geat sink on which never feels that hot to touch.

thanks in advance for any help
