Next step with Hotmail?

This seems like the best forum for this question.

I'm being bombarding with Hotmail e-mails urging me to upgrade to their Live beta. However, it looks as though it involves downloading something ("click here to download") to my computer.

Excuse the simple-minded question, but does that mean that the e-mail account will then be tied to that specific computer, rather than being web-based? Because I don't have my own home computer, but use a variety of work computers.

    Thanks for any explanations.

Windows Live Mail Beta doesn't require you to download anything as far as I know. Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta does. Which one are you being offered to try ?

PS. can the Live names be any longer ?!?!
