No Audio from speakers

I really need some help

I have a Dimension 5150 Dell Computer with Integrated 7.1 Audio.
I can play CDs ok but I don`t get any other sound from the speakers.
Can anyone suggest anything. I`m only a novice.

Has the problem always existed or did it start recently?

Thanks rik - I managed to fix my sound problem by reinstalling from the CD that came with the computer. Everything is fine now.
