No Internet connection on Windows XP

I have no internet conncetion with windows XP. Everything looks like it is working, internet and network settings are good.

I went into the command prompt and used ipconfig /all

It gives me an IP address, we are using WOW cable connection and I have a VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter...

It says....

Ethernet adapter Network Connect Adapter:

Media State: Media disconnected

does this mean my ethernet card is bad?
I then cannot do any ipconfig /release or ipconfig /renew because it is disconnected.

I am very much an amatuer and was just trying everything I found in the forums.

thanks in advance for the help!!!

Ok, I see now that there are two line items. The Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection is the VIA Rhine II, it works fine.

When I run network diagnostics is fails with DNSServer Search Order
64.233.217.5 and 64.233.217.2

If I try to ping these it does fail.
