    my computer crashed it was a VAIO couldnt get the old system restored. went out and got a new copy of windows, installed that. now i have no sound, says it dosent detect a sound card? anything i can do?

    yes, you can find out what sound device you have (check your manual) and then google for the drivers for that device

    Look here and follow the instructions to supply your Vaio model or run the auto detection utility. You should be able to completely restore all the drivers and utilities that came with your Vaio from here.
