Hey everyone. I have a friend thats has a HP computer. It has realtek ac97 O/B sound. The sound doesn't work. Device manager shows the o/b sound and drive being installed and just fine. When you go into control panel to sounds and audio devices you cant change anything. Its just like it has to sound devices installed. I check BIOS and o/b sound is enabled. I tried to install a sound card and disabled the o/b sound, it installed just fine and it says its working but its doing the same thing. Whats the next step? Thanks.

Have you tested the speakers? Do headphones work?

first off, if this is a windows vista computer, you should update your drivers. Vista has issues with sound cards and some other devices. if it isnt a windows vista, then try upgrading to service pack 2. If all else fails, then try re-installing the os or do an xp repair, but before that scan for virues beacuse you never know lol
