I have an XP Pro SP2 machine, and when I tried to boot it up it says 'file ntfs.sys is imssing or corrupt blah blah blah '. I tried to boot of the XP Pro CD, but after loading all the installation drivers, it too says 'file ntfs.sys is corrupt' and doesnt even get me as far as the recovery console.

The CD is good, because we just installed off it on another machine not 15 minutes ago....

Help!!!

I figured out what it was after reading another post here on Techspot. Memory. Ripped out a Dimm and replaced it and all was lovely. Talk about misleading messages.

I know what you mean about misleading messages lol

On the rare occasions I start to get bsod`s, particularly if they seem a bit vague, I always run the Memtest86+ programme as a first step.

Glad you got your problem sorted.

Regards Howard :)
