Old School game driving me mad!

Hi folks...
So I had a weird desire to play "Desert Combat" (the mod for BF1942)...

So I dusted off the ol' BF1942 CDs, installed, patched, and then downloaded and installed Desert combat.

BF1942 works great.

DC on the other hand does not.
when I try to actually start the game it brings up the screen you get when it loads the map... the progress bar gets a little less than half way there... and it crashes to the desktop.

This is driving me mad! I really wanted to play this game!?

Any Ideas?

Where do you fit in these specs. You have not given any system information.

fair enough.

I've got a:
2GHz AMD proc
2.5 GB of RAM
Radeon 9600 XT AGP with 128 MB VRAM
Windows XP SP 2

The only oddball is that this PC is running the media center edition of XP.
But that shouldn't matter should it? (it's able to run BF1942 just fine)

Fixed!

So it turns out... I'm an *****.

Had everything downloaded...
But apparently didn't install DC 0.7 ...
need that for Final to work.
