OS Won't Recognize Inserted Disks

I have a Sony VAIO, 3 megaherz, running on Windows XP Pro. I recently had a defective CD/DVD-ROM drive replaced (by CompUSA). Now whenever I insert a CD (music, data, program) into one of the two CD-ROM drives, nothing happens. I look in Windows Explorer and the name of the drives change from DVD-ROM to CD Drive, but nothing else happens. When I click on the drive letter, it shows an empty directory. I know there is data on the CDs, and I know both of the drives work fine. The OS recognizes the disks if another program, like Roxio, calls on them. Does anybody know what the problem might be?
