Out of interest: browser and OS breakdowns?

I guess I amount to some of the that Netscape usage, as I didn't want to log in (which I do automaticly in Opera), but I can't be accountable for all of it.

And I thinks SNGX is correct in that some of that IE is actually Opera... Some pages have a block to only allow IE, even though it works just as well in Opera.

No, it still reports Opera in the Browser agent string... And because of that our "awstats" software always correctly identifies the browsers...

Unless you manually edit the .exe file of the browser with a hexeditor, which some of our users have, some examples would be IE v7.0.0 and "you suck" ;-)

Something that is a bit strange is that a few months ago we had many Netscape readers, but the next month that dropped down to almost nothing... And also the fact that there are so few none-Microsoft OS readers... On the other hand we do have a nice spread of OS'es like OS'es, like irix, BeOs, Sun Solaris, BSD, HP UNIX, OS/2, CPM, Aix etc... It's just that it's so few hits compared to Microsoft OS'es...

I find those numbers a bit surprising since a recent poll on the topic in one of the forums put Firefox and IE almost tied for majority, although that poll didn't account for the many unregistered users or those too lazy to click on a choice.
I would also add that my visits here are split between IE and Firefox. I use Firefox and IE both on my home machines since there are a few sites which do not workj in Firefox and some that don't display right in IE(since a recent update anyway) I use IE only, at work because Dellserv and many other internal sites we use won't work on any other browser.

Same here. The majority of the time, it's because all the customers I help have IE, and when they have an error, it's just easier to have IE at hand to mess with settings and whatnot.

Using Opera 7.51, but it has
Preferences / Network / Browser Identification / Identify as MSIE 6.0

So your server software foils that MSIE 6.0 masquerade?

gospelmidi; load this page, it will show you what your browser header is... As you see it says "Opera versionnumber" at the end, that is what our software looks at, so the stats are correct
