Pioneer's latest Blu-ray drive caters to disc diehards

The "R" in the model name answers that question.

Visiting the link provided,

and then scrolling down to the tables of supported disc types and recording speeds also answers that question.

Sooo... what have we learned?
Pretty much that I couldn't read the page as it was in Japanese, or maybe Chinese. Besides, "write" begins with a "W".

Record begins with an R!😁 I was able to translate that page in (oh horrors) Edge. Ordered my BDR-213JBK on Amazon and it came all the way from Japan!😲 Got it installed and working fine. My old one was a BDR-209DBK dated 2018. It had started having some burn issues, ( program said the disk may be corrupted but retried and burned fine) may just need cleaning? Only thing no firmware or utilities for it on the US site. Have a great day!😁😁

So does "ROM".

Good for you? I really wasn't that interested, just curious. Do you speak Japanese, or did Google do the heavy lifting?

Over the years, I owned a couple dozen DVD burners. Way back when, you could buy them from Newegg for $15.00 to $20.00. The only trouble with then was, within some odd months, the trays stop ejecting. Belts slipping and such. Based on those experiences, there is absolutely no way I would pay $200.00 for an internal drive.

If I want to do a backup, I'll simply shove another HDD (or SSD) into the case, copy the entire drive, and stuff the backup drive into another machine.

"My friend", has a DVD burner/ Blu-ray player. He found that Blu-ray DRM, can be transferred to a DVD. Yet a humble DVD only burner, will just ignore the BR copy protections. So, every time he "my friend", installed the BR drive, he wound up yanking it back out again. (Although in fairness, he says the tray still does work).

So, "my friend", as well as myself, are somewhat backward, out of touch, and verily even shun, many of today's, (seemingly) "technological necessities".

Speaking pragmatically, at present I could probably get away with just a CD burner. You know, to backup my archaic CD collection.

So, instead of ending this post with a crap ton of emojis, I'll just say, "best of luck with your new toy".

"Do you speak Japanese?" No, Edge browser was able to translate, usually use Firefox & Duck Duck go.Only use edge as last resort! Sorry to hear about the DRM issues. Got the BDR-213JBK for $125 on amazon. A little pricey but it burns over priced "M" discs & 100GB blu-ray. No DRM issues so far, my "friends" Burner program will let me save personal back-ups of originals with no issues!😁 Thanks for the "best of luck"!😁

You don't need skills with Japanese to understand the english parts of the page. Of course there's also Google Translate.

Wowee..!! :joy::joy::joy: Holy mother of sh!t stains, Google has an option to translate....!!! (y) (Y)(y) (Y)(y) (Y)(y) (Y)(y) (Y) I did not know that..
 <(Hopefully that registers as the sarcasm it truly is).

As you're well aware. I labor on this site facing several handicaps. First and foremost there's my personality, along with the facts, I don't game, and I build with Intel. All of which are a death blow to any delusions I might cling to about winning a popularity contest.

When you compound that with my belief that Biden is doing a great job, but tRump is a psychopath, a pathological liar, and a worthless piece of sh!t unfit for dogcatcher, let aloe being POTUS, precludes any inroads I might be able to travel, with 40% (?) of the membership here.

Accordingly, were I to dismiss this fabulous new Blu-ray burner with a flippant, "who gives fu*k". there's no telling the scope of the emotional hardships I might further be saddled with. Thus, I tried to tactfully skirt the issue in the abstract by stating, "I can't read Japanese". Hey, at least I followed the link in spite of my feelings of apathy, disdain, and disinterest.

So, given the difficulties with divining intent, emotion, and context on the printed page, it is quite logical that you misunderstood the heavily veiled meaning of that post. I'll try to do better by expressing more literal communications in the future.

In any case, Nikon just (?) released a new 70-300 mm zoom. It's slow (f4.5 to f5.6), but it's relatively cheap at $600.00. Should I elect to knock a couple points off my credit score, I'll do it with that lens, not some damned Blu-ray burner.

Besides, I just got back from Quora arguingg with some *******, who posted, "The magnet is connected to the speaker cone and makes it move" When I told him he had no idea what he was talking about. I was then categorized as a "dimwit", and asked if I knew what "bass reflex" meant.

So, enough for now. I'm going back to watch my Lave lamps bubble while listening to 50 year old music, happily aloof and detached from the vibrant world of fantabulous innovations in the world of optical disc devices,. I know I'm out of touch, so what?

That about sums up your whole comment here.
I think, "disinterested" would be more appropriate. I mean, being told things I already know, in relation to things I fave no need of, is well, boorish..

Did you know that Google can translate that for you?

Then why did you offer comment in the first place?

Other than I felt like it? Are you now presuming to tell me when or where, or what, I should, or am allowed to post? I don't see ",moderator" in your sig.

Pioneer makes as good an optical drive as the next China based company. (They were Japanese upon a time). In fact, I have a lowly 8x DVD burner still working in another machine. (10+ YO). But then, I don't use it that often. So, color me idly curious about this new device. However, I don't feel the need or the social status pressure to spring for one.

As for me being "out of touch" to a certain extent that's true. But, you have to admit I'm not some jitterbug who feels obligated to pepper posts with strings of emojis. I try to get by with my ability to get my point across in plain English. (Well, maybe a tasteful "rolleyes" once in a while).

Over the years you've made it abundantly clear you don't particularly like me. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the feeling is mostly mutual. In any case, it becomes a "chicken or the egg" paradox.

So, how about if we either, "kiss and make up", or go to our respective corners and stay there for a good long while.

BTW, just because I comment on one of you posts, don't assume I'm spoiling for an argument. Sometimes, I'm simply not.

Your ad hoc course in "Google translate" was a bit much though. Playing "how stupid do you think I am really, is just a game I'm not enthusiastically willing to play.

No, ATSC has fully taken over. No one is broadcasting analogue in the USA anymore. NTSC is effectively a retired and gone standard.
At the time of the conversion both NTSC and ATSC were being broadcast simultaneously, under the same channel call sign. I fondly remember the freebie conversion boxes given out by the fed.

Networks and their affiliates were transmitting both analogue and, digital, but given a mandatory date certain to end analogue broadcasting.

However, stations under a certain power level were allowed to continue with analogue. I do not remember if this was, "a stay of execution", or granted in perpetuity. The reasons cited were potential financial hardship, and lack of enough range to interfere with commercial broadcaster's signals. (I think they still get 1 megawatt at the final amps).

It is somewhat unreasonable to assume that analogue equipment from that era is still viable. So yeah, "NTSC is dead". However, people still use the term our of habit, since at the time of the crossover, both NTSC & ATSC were identical (IIRC ?) with respect to aspect ratio and resolution). Prior to that, NTSC was 640 x 480i.

I have a TV upstairs with analogue channels still listed. I really should get around to re-scanning that gem, as the analogue tunings wreak a bit of havoc with the "last channel" protocols.

I actually used my DVD drive for the first time in years the other day. All this Russian invasion news made me want to play red alert 2. That game isn’t on any digital store I could find but I do still have my physical copy of “command and conquer the first decade” on DVD ROM and after entering in a long code for every game in the package it started installing.

It was so slow and annoyingly loud. I don’t miss discs!
You can get Red Alert 2 and any other C&C game on Steam, no idea what you're talking about. Although admittedly only as part of the C&C collection.
