"Pong" noise when speakers are turned on.

I recently built a new computer - here are the specs

Windows XP pro
ASUS A7V600-X motherboard
Athlon XP 2900+
512 ram
120GB SATA WD12000jd hard drive
Mad Dog CDRW
LG DVDRW
ATI Radeon 9200 AIW
Creative audio ES1370 soundcard

When I turn on the speakers I get a constant "ponging" noise. This happens even when I play a cd. I tried disabling the sound card and using the onboard sound and the ponging noise continues. I updated drivers and nothing changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Have you disabled the onboard sound in the bios?
Also the only way to disable the creative card is to remove it.
Has this system worked with just the onboard?

try using headphones instead of your speakers for a bit. if the problem is not present whilst using the 'phones, you can reasonably assume that the speaker system itself was at fault.
