Possible SATA problem.....

In just finishing my newly pieced together computer, I am having some problems installing XP.
  • Sometimes wont load bootable CD
  • System hangs while in the process of installing XP at Examining 280,000mb at something or other
I don't have the exact specs at the moment, but here is what I got
  • AMD Athlon 64 3200+
  • 1 Gig of ram
  • 300Gig, Maxtor SATA HDD
  • I think it is an ABit mobo, but I know it has an Nvidia chipset.

Thanks in advance!

when the windows installer boots up, did you choose to install the SATA/RAID drivers when prompted to?

I wouldn't put it past to also have a CD and/or CD-ROM DRIVE problem. As in, a dirty disk or drive that is not reading right. Apparent by its not wanting to boot sometimes. Because the times is DOES boot, it may still be having read problems and eventually fails.
You said this was a newly put together PC, so I might assume you have a new CD-ROM and a new CD? If so, make sure the BIOS settings are correct, and you really shouldn't be having a problem with bootable CDs.

good luck
