  1. Hi Everyone,

Thank you in advanced for your time and help!

I am experiencing a strange problem, and I'm at the end of my rope here. First of all, here are my system specs:

    OS: MS Windows 7 64-Bit SP1
    CPU: Intel Core i3 2120 @ 3.30GHz Sandy Bridge
    RAM: 4GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
    MOBO: Intel DH67BL (Socket 0)
    GPU: Acer S201HL (1600x900@60Hz)
HDD: 977GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALX-009BA0 (SATA)
    Optical: Optiarc DVDRW AD-7280S

Here are the printers I am using:

    Local:
    Brother MFC-290C Printer (Default Printer)
    Printer Port USB001
    Print Processor winprint
    Availability Always
    Priority 1
    Duplex None
    Print Quality 4294967293 dpi Color
    Status Unknown

    Virtual:
    doPDF v7
    Printer Port DOP7:
    Print Processor winprint
    Availability Always
    Priority 1
    Duplex None
    Print Quality 300 dpi Color
    Status Unknown

    Network:
    TOSHIBA e-STUDIO203L
    Printer Port WSD-d80c5ae6-8f85-42cb-b240-4b142999b384.0060
    Print Processor winprint
    Availability Always
    Priority 1
    Duplex None
    Print Quality 600 * 600 dpi Monochrome
    Status Unknown

So, I am at work doing my normal tasks when Microsoft Word 2003 freezes. It becomes unresponsive and is forced to end process. After starting it back up again, I get a strange error message:

"The printer has not yet responded, but the Microsoft Office program may be able to proceed without printer information. Do you want to wait for the printer?"

Clicking yes causes the program to become unresponsive again. Clicking no causes it to go back to normal, except when I try to print it brings up the default print dialog with no printer selected. When I try to select ANY of the printers, every single choice will cause the program to freeze and become unresponsive again.

So I took some steps to try to troubleshoot after looking around online, but did not find much help. I tried (not in order):

-Uninstalling all printer drivers and reinstalling them
-Disabled and re-enabled Printer Spooling service
    -System Restore
    -CCleaner - clean-up & registry repair
    -ComboFix
-Changing default printer to local & virtual printers
-Installed Office 2007 instead (won't even start-up due to printer issue)

The weird thing is, I can print fine off of programs like notepad, mspaint, wordpad, etc, and test pages all print out fine too. However, certain programs like Thunderbird, Chrome, NitroPDF, any Office program, etc all freeze up when I try to print.

I'm hoping someone might have some insight on how to fix this? Thank you!

First, quit all programs. Use cmd->notepad to open a new text file, type some gobldee gook on 2-2 lines and <ctl>p to print it - - DOES IT?

If so, the print driver is fine and so is the system - - MS Word needs to see a new default printer.

Yes, Notepad, Wordpad, MSPaint all print everything fine with no problems whatsoever. It's only programs like QuickBooks, Word, Excel, NitroPDF, Thunderbird, etc that freeze up when I try to print. Please advise, how can I make them see a new default printer?

What version of Windows are you using ?

Don't fuss with QB, word, excel - - work on getting the simplier programs (TB, Nitro*) working.
