Problem adding a 2nd drive in Win XP

I just got a new Compaq computer running Win XP. I tried moving a HD from my old computer that was running Win 98SE. The old HD is recognized by the BIOS and under device manager. It can even populate all the right disc info. However, when I go to disk management under XP, it does see the disc but I cannot assign it a driver letter. That option is grey'ed out. The only active option in the menu is delete partition.

How can I get XP to recognize this disk so I can transfer my old info? Thanks!

Back in the mists of time,I remember reading somewhere that "Go Back" or some partition managers somehow "label" drives in a way that XP can`t read.I can`t remember the details, but if they`re on the old HD,you could try uninstalling them.

You are right. This HD came from a Gateway computer and they had GoBack installed as default. I hope I can figure out how to uninstall it...
