Problem after PC upgrades

Hi

I have just increased my RAM to 512MB, the max my pc will take. Also fitted a LG DVD Burner and a USB 2 Port into a spare slot.

The drivers were installed etc on reboot but now I'm getting various 'system error box's', IE closes after a couple of mins and sometimes the PC restarts itself.....hence I'm typing fast as I can!

Could this be a conflict somewhere as I just disabled the DVD drive in the hardware menu and all appears ok at the moment.

Thanks

Yup

Every thing seems ok for a couple of mins...then IE will close or the PC will restart. I get message 'windows has recovered from a serious problem' when it reboots.

Gonna try disabling the USB ports

mmm... virus? do u have your XP updated?... with all the patches?...

and... it kinda looks like a screwed Reg.dat (Registry)... so... i think a reinstall should be done... if nothing else solves the problem...

its not virus...I think. ( will scan just in case)

Xp is all updated.

I have disabled the usb port...all ok so far.

Thanks :D

If it is the USB card then what is causing the problem?

Do I need to uninstal the original USB?

Maybe IRQ (Interruption Request) conflicts...

make sure you install the USB Card on another PCI slot... that solves the problem in many cases...

Have you tryed the Memory modules on another system?...
may your ram isnt compatible with your Mo Bo...
Maybe its PC-133 and your Board only uses PC-100

can you give me the Model of Your MoBo?...

Its MSI MS 6191

The SD Ram I put in is PC 133 although I thought if you had PC 100 you could upgrade to 133?

But what do I know...I'm a Plumber!

hahahaha... dont worry...

theres your problem... you cant use PC-133 on a PC-100 Board

lol...ok thanks.

Thats definetly the problem then?

So I have to buy PC 100? There is nothing else I can do?

Will it have done any damage?

Oh and thanks for your help.

Yes... u have to buy PC-100 Memory Modules... Unless u want a new system...

Can u change the PC-133? it will save u a lot of money :D

nope... it should not have done any damage to your system..

Your welcome... Happy Computing!!!
