For XP I had to disable the firewall to get mine to work. Hope that helps.

    Isp?

I had a similar problem- it turned out to be my ISP. They required that two files from the XP disc be installed, in order to enable NetBEUI. Windows no longer supports it automatically, but the files are on the installation disk under ValuAdd, I think-
    copy nbf.sys into \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and
    copy netnbf.inf into \INF

I had to do this on both computers, then checkmark the Enable Net BEUI box on network connections. My ISP is Cox Communications. Don't know if this will apply to yours. Also, of course, be sure file/printer sharing is checked. You may also have to spcify at least one file for sharing to get it started.
