Problem with cd rom

i have scsi\ 54x cd rom and also a adai cd-r/rw 20x10 cd rom my operating system is xp pro but i cannot get these drives to read any disc?

do both drives appear in the bios? what about the windows (check device manager, explorer, and disk management)?
