  1. Its a Compaq C300 with a 1.6 ghz Celeron M. For the first few days the processor ran at 85*f and the fan rarely came on. Today the fan runs at full speed about every minute and the processor temp jumps to 130* and the falls to 115*. Im using Everest to read the temp sensors.

What software have you installed? See the Task Manager process page for any CPU-hogging programs.

most laptops have thermal sensors that speed up cooling. This is normal. There should be some type of manufactuer software to regulate this on your rig.

Laptops definitely vary in temperature as CPU workload increases, and the temp changes quickly.
You might want to find out from Compaq if you are within normal parameters.
I checked my Dell M70, pent M and it is around 112F medium load.Dell tech lists this a little cool.
As you probably know , always operate the unit on a Flat stiff surface for air flow.
