Put together my first build and nothing is showing up on the monitor

I believe I have everything properly connected and when I turn on the pc it starts up looks like everything is running, the fans are on, the gpu light and fans are on as well but when I hook it up to my monitor nothing shows up. I know that it is not my monitor because it is what I have been using for months.

My build is as follows:
mobo: asrock 970m pro3
CPU: AMD 6300
GPU: msi r9 390
PSU: Corsair cx600
storage: Crucial bx100 250gb
Ram: G.skill Ns Series 8GB DDR3-1600
and the case is a Corsair carbide 200r

Let's try this simple step: If you can borrow another monitor do so and connect it. What are the results?

Is your video card firmly set? How are your connections between power supply and video card? How is your connection between video card and monitor?
