No worries, Julio! We know you guys already have a lot on your plate, and more pressing issues. Sorry to bother about the thread to be moved. It kinda skipped me to PM Matt instead.
And speaking of PM, is the "attach a file" option still there? Because I couldn't find it. And, I didn't get "new PM notif or popup like earlier, so I had to manually check if there are any.

Oh. Maybe I'm getting you wrong, but here's mine: Capture.JPG
Sorry if I didn't make my statement clear, but I'm talking about the Private Messaging (PM) system, now labeled "Conversations". There, even the "More Options" button (equivalent of "Go Advanced" I think) doesn't offer file attachment.
I think your screenshot is that of the "Reply to Thread". Sorry for the inconvenience.

To be honest I don't recall ever using attachments via PM before, so on Xenforo we are not offering them as we thought those would be unnecessary/nobody was using them for that purpose. Am I wrong?

Maybe you're right. That makes me a minority. Hehe.

Yes, it is also more dangerous to allow attachments to private messages.
Since sometimes we get spammers that only use the PM system, those can be very hard for us to know.
    Especially if it's targeted spam...

We sure as heck don't need any of that stuff here! :D

It could be "white meat", it could be "dark meat" but to me it's just good ole "mystery meat"!
    We don't need it here!

I'm not trying to either rush things or put undo pressure on anyone here, but I was a bit curious to know what the status of the groups thing is? I know we can manually access them via a direct link to the old, but I was curious to know if the groups will be brought into the new!

    Thanks.....

Bad news, I'm afraid. We paid for the group feature and importer that would bring back the groups to Xenforo. On paper it looked good, but then we tried the software and it's utter crap. The imports are messed up, the interface is awful, and to be honest I prefer to drop the idea completely than work on top of something that's obviously not polished software -- I wouldn't be surprised if the add-on introduced security holes we don't know about.

Soon we will be taking down what's left of the vBulletin software, I'm afraid that's the way this has to go and the group feature is not coming back in the foreseeable future unless some other add-on that we can truly rely on becomes available.

That's sad, but it's not the end of the world eh? :)

Ya'know, it wouldn't be hard to replicate groups just using the standard setup: Groups were effectively topics (threads) but set out of the way of the normal forum. You could just do something like make a sub-forum in the off-topic section and sticky it to the top ("Social Groups")...and guys could just make new threads inside it, because that's what groups were anyway really.

Could even make a shortcut in the profile section to that section in the forum. It could certainly be a temporary fix until something better came along I would think.

Well, well, well, some sad news indeed! Trust me, as Benny26 has noted....."it's not the end of the world"! I know Julio that you and your staff have been busting tail and taking names and doing your very best when it comes to this new place. I don't doubt and I trust you when you say that you guy's have tried to do something about this groups thing and it didn't pan out. I know that when dealing with two different formats of anything, it sometimes can be very hard to get the two different formats to play nice with each other.

Maybe as like Benny26 has already stated, maybe some sort of temporary fix can be implemented, until such time a more permanent fix can be found. Maybe we don't have to worry about trying to import the old groups to this place, maybe XenForo already has a groups feature and we could start fresh and new, I don't mind starting most of my old groups back up from scratch! I think I remember most if not all of what was there and could start it back up fresh and new here.

But in the mean time, I'm sure the TechSpot staff have bigger fish to fry, I'll just practice patience and see what if anything happens in the future!

    Hmm...not a bad idea...I was thinking of a Tinkering Dept. group..or should I say sub-forum? ;)
