RAM Help Needed!

Hey guys!

Here is the deal...

..A short time ago I upgraded from XP to Vista and with the kind help of a friend upgraded bits and bobs parts-wise inside my machine as its slightly out of date.

Anyway, I purchased a 512MB of RAM from CEX about 1-2 months ago to add to my 256MB of RAM but there is where my problem lays...

It will not pick up both of them, only the 256MB if they are both inserted, but the 512MB on its own with be fine but I would like both working at the same time.

Here is the full spec of the 256 (which is written on the RAM) for those of higher knowledge..

ELIXIR
M1U25664DS88C3G-5T
256MB DDR-400MHz - CL3
PC3200U - 30330

I am unsure of the 512MB as it is being used at the moment but I am pretty sure it is DDR, PC3200

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Try (this program) "Everest" by Lavalyis co. This will give you the specs of all of your hardware in use. For some reason they are not willing to work together. Both ram slots are working? I am sure you probably all ready thought of these ideas, but just trying to help. If you want more ram again 2 gigs of ram is dropping in price a lot. Good Luck.

This enough info?

You probably need a BIOS update. Either that, or one of the RAM slots is faulty. Speaking of which, does this problem occur with only one particular slot i.e. have you tried swapping the sticks around in different slots?

I have tried swapping the sticks time and time again, still no difference, how would I update my BIOS?

Here is an updated version with the 512 inserted...
