Ram upgrade

Right now I have 2x512mb 5300 ram. I am wanting to get 2gb, but I don't know if I should get 2 more 512 sticks or get 1 1024 stick. I don't really care for dual channel. I did a Crucial.com computer scan and it said my memory must be in matched pairs. I don't really believe this.

Anyway, would it make more sense to get 1x1024 stick instead of 2 more 512? I do plan on upgrading my ram later on.

Dual channel RAM perform better than single-channel. But if you wish to upgrade to higher memory in a time, single channel will be better.

But some system does not works stable with single-channel, means let say if you have 4 slots of ram, it's really recommended for you to put 2 pairs of exact 512MB ram instead of a pair of 512 with a 1024 stick.

however i'm not good at this areas, but i do know that dual-channel is better (price more expensive) in performance but lack in upgrade convenient.

If you have the money, buy 2x1GB, then sell your 2x512 on a forum like anandtech.com
