hello

In an attempt to be a completely legitimate user of windows (having a ungenuine version of xp pro) i would lke to replace the OS with media center 2005 as i would use the features more.

Is there a way in which i could install media center over the top of Pro?

A clean install is a lot better than what your trying to do.

If you still want to go over the top, there is a good thread HERE
Ignore the top half, which is probably illegal, and just read the Bart`s PE method.

Good luck.

sorry about the long responce to your suggestion, but a clean install wouldn't be too much of a problem i think. How would i go about doing that?

I've never done it before (as you may have guessed) but do i have to worry about installing a bios when i format the drive?

if sata drive yes you
if you have the motherboard disc that would ne great
if not get all the soft drivers first then on boot of install disc ,erase the partition,
make a new one ,format, install
if standard ide you can load drivers after install
