if i change to root i disable my network device and i unplug the cord. after i get back on other user, i try to active the network device but it doesn't do it, i also tried going into services and restarting the network service, but still my computer don't grab an ip address. is there another service i need to restart also? if i reboot it works fine, i'm trying to skip the rebooting part. aaron
i don't know, i'm really crazy about security, and specially when i'm new to linux. i read to not log into root while connected to the internet. but for the question, i found out that i need to be on root for it to get an ip and all the good stuff aaron
What operating system are we talking about here? Ok, you replied.. In linux you can set almost anything you want to be doable by a normal user too but it is much more secure to just switch to root when you need to do something special.
