I am an iPhone 4 owner myself. I actually performed a complete factory reset on my phone a few months back, and the process was pretty simple. You can find the instructions on the Apple website.

However, note that you will be able to use only 3G network connection. So, if you are looking for high speed network connectivity, you may have to think about using a different upgraded device.
