Despite the fact that the iPhone has been on the market for more than six years now, some people just can’t let go of the past. And by the past, I mean the physical QWERTY keyboard equipped on the majority of BlackBerry devices sold during the past decade.

Sure, there are already a number of physical keyboard accessories for the iPhone but apparently none of them got the job done for entertainment personality Ryan Seacrest. Instead, he decided to partner with another individual and invest more than $1 million to create their own iPhone keyboard case.

It’s not uncommon for Hollywood A-listers to carry around two phones: one with a keyboard for business purposes and an iPhone for pretty much everything else. As the story goes, Seacrest and a friend were having dinner out one night and had their phones on the table. Two people, four phones. Unacceptable.

It’s called the Typo iPhone Keyboard and it’ll debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Early photos show a two-part accessory that clips onto the phone and offers a full backlit keyboard and protection for the rear of the iPhone. We are told the keyboard communicates with the phone via Bluetooth and doesn’t impede access to the microphone, speaker and Lightning connector. What’s more, users will enjoy up to 40 percent more screen real estate as the onscreen keyboard will no longer be necessary for text input.

Expect to pay $99 for the Typo iPhone Keyboard early next year.

I dont consider them the "past", as physical keyboards tend to be superior to touch screen ones in alot of peoples opinions.

Anyway, Im confused why this uses bluetooth instead of the phones usb connector, and having another one in the bottom, as that would be a more permanent and less battery draining solution...

Opinions??? Are you for real? Real keyboards ARE superior (I'm talking in general), it's not an opinion, it's a F.A.C.T.

For that $99 you can almost buy a high quality mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX switches and it will leave every touch keyboard light years in the dust. Nevertheless, I wouldn't like to have a real keyboard on my phone, touch is just fine, since I would never do any heavy typing on this phone.

Its not fact. its not a statistic. I agree with you that its superior, but certain people would argue that a touch screen is superior. And regardless of how stupid I think it is, its still an opinion.

Wow, just like the Naztech Slide-out keyboard!?
Or, the BoxWave Backlit keyboard!?
Or, the KeyTech verticle keyboard!?

Just because the over-paid Ryan Seacrest is backing it doesn't make it new...or special.
