Hi all,

I bought a new SATA Western Digital HD yesterday (WD3200JD/7200R/8M) as an additional HD. I already have a WD 160G drive running as the master. I've attached the new HD to my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-8I915D Pro), but it is not being recognized or being assigned a drive letter. I can see it in the Device Manager, and the report says it's operating properly, but no dice. Belarc shows it as Drive 1 (although the Device Manager lists its location as "0 (0)" - the same as the master), but does not list in local drives.

I've changed the connection position on the motherboard also with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8I915D Pro
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory

If you've loaded the SATA drivers go to Run and enter diskmgmt.msc
Select the drive and right click Partition.
Create and then Format.

Does it show up in the disk manager?

(Right click My Computer -> Manage -> Logical Disk Manager)

The drive probably needs a signature assigned to it.
