Just not enough "Hollywood" I guess. Time was though these guys were protected from the media jackals and they weren't thrown to the political wolves anytime someone wanted a piece of them.

This sense that the military and the elites in the military are somehow the last vestige of validity is only going to get us in worse trouble. SEALs and other special operators are human beings like anyone else. They're certainly successful. But they're specialists. We don't expect heart surgeons to be expert basketball players.
We shouldn't expect special forces to be media savvy either. These guys shouldn't have crossed the line from quiet professionalism.
But the military has to take at least some measures to protect them. And they have to stop being used as political footballs and targets of financial opportunism.

Someone wants to fantasize they're warfighters, that's great. But war is not a game and special operators are not ball players. When they lose, when they gain risk, there are more than points at stake. People may die.
The *****s in these companies pushing money at these guys had better figure out whether the country or their bottom line comes first.

Yes, let's shoot the people that killed Osama for us. Sounds like a great way to repay them for taking out the most wanted person of the U.S. Maybe next time, the SEALS will reconsider doing so again if it had to happen.... DOH!

    Yup! I remember that clearly.

You boy on the playground said, "Mommy, that nice man over there. The one who's protecting my freedom? He let me see his uniform and some tools that he uses on his job. It was cool!"

Then, not more than 10 minutes later, the Navy Seal was shot and killed for revealing those secrets to the young man. Happened all the time.

The report says the SEALs used CLASSIFIED information that may have been given to them by the Navy and they voluntarily VIOLATED the understanding that SEALs ARE SILENT WARRIORS THAT SHY AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC SPOTLIGHT.

If you still don't get it, god help us all.

Have you guys heard of Bradley Manning? He's the guy who leaked the military secrets to wikileaks. He's facing the death penalty. Will he get it, who knows.

But again... if you guys don't understand this, god help us all.
Actually no... be glad you don't get it. Living in the ivory tower that is America isolates us from the real evil in the world. And next time you see a vet, thank him/her that you have no idea what they protect us from.

  12. Are they patriots serving their country & killing in the name of America, or are they mercenaries killing for a salary?....selling your "patriotic" stories for cash kinda blurs the lines.

  14. In the meantime, al qaeda is investing in EA Games so that they can be trained by seal team 6.

seriously, the u.s. government should jail this EA team behind the game and their executives for actively soliciting state secrets for use in a military-themed game.

Manning wasn't looking to make a buck, he was trying to be a whistleblower and do the right thing. Debatable whether he was or not, and debatable as to how he went about it. But either way, he wasn't looking to cash in.

That said, pinning this all to post-service discretion and then just hoping real hard they don't fail is not what I'd call a retention of secrets "strategy."

Do you remember 9/11 and all the people that died because of it? Remember that guy named Osama Bin Laden that caused it to happen? Yea, SEAL Team Six killed him for us. I don't think you know what "respect" means.
