In a nutshell: If you have not watched the first season of the Netflix Original Altered Carbon, now is the time. The dystopian cyberpunk thriller is worth the binge, and Season 2 is coming next month.

Two years ago, we reported on a strange booth that was set up at CES 2018 by a company called Psychasec. The company claimed to manufacture full-body replacements for humans, prototypes of which were on display.

Of course, the company was fake, and the booth was simply a promotion to generate hype for Netflix's upcoming (at the time) series Altered Carbon. The show debuted on February 2, just weeks later. The following July, Netflix announced it had renewed the series. Then silence for two years, until now. Season 2 will be available on February 27.

Joel Kinnaman portrayed lead character, Takeshi Kovacs, in the first season. Kovacs is returning but Kinnaman is not. The character will instead be played by Anthony Mackie this time. The switch in lead actors is quickly dismissed and will surely be explained off by the body-replacement premise of the show.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

In Richard K. Morgan's novels, the original Kovacs (played by Will Yun Lee in flashbacks) lives for hundreds of years by switching bodies when one dies (usually killed violently in his case). It would be unsurprising to see this role recast every season.

According to the lore of the series, in 2384, people can have their consciousness transferred into synthetic bodies via physical memory discs called "stacks." Referred to as "sleeves," these replacements are manufactured by Psychasec, of course, and allow folks to have the body they've always dreamed of without the exercise or plastic surgery. However, the mind can also be moved into another human. For the very rich (called Meths), sleeves are usually clones of themselves.

Kinnaman's secondary role is a character named Elias Ryker. Ryker was a police detective before serving as a host for Kovacs' stack and had his own sub-plot during Season 1. It is unclear if Mackie's character will have a similar secondary story. It is likely though, since people will want to know where this sleeve came from.

There is no trailer yet, only the teaser that producers tweeted Tuesday morning (above). However, there will likely be a more substantial taste in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can play catch up if you have a Netflix subscription, something I highly recommend since it has been two years since Season 1 aired.

I loved this show, I love spending time in cyberpunk style world's even if the story isn't the best. To be honest, I thought the story was great, just the ending was kind of disappointing. I really did enjoy spending time with those Characters and in that world.

Story was very promising but execution and ending was HORRIBLE.

I enjoyed 80+percent of it, but the ending was really dumb. However, I have been excited for a second season ever since I heard it was announced.

The world lacks a lot of great scifi right now so I'll take what I can get. They keep canceling all the good shows, like dark matter, Stargate universe, Atlantis, Galactica, ect. Thank goodness the expanse got picked up by Amazon.....

They were mediocre books and it was a terrible tv show.... hurray for what I’m sure will be an even worse season 2...
Idk, I liked like I like most action movies and shows. I guess when you watch a lot, you begin to appreciate the flow of entertainment instead of watching one show in 5 years and then remember forever how great it was. Well I am not that guy. I will most likely enjoy it.

I am sorry I did a mistake in my wording. I wanted to say:

Story was very promising but execution OF ending was HORRIBLE.

I really liked most of the episodes but ending was horrible (last 2-3 episodes).

90% on RT says otherwise
Well, it only got 68% on Rotten Tomatoes... look at the critics' score, not the sheep...

And it's still crap... not to mention altering the books to bring the almost incestuous sister stuff into it was just painful...

The sheep are the critics these days, applying their Political reviewing, look at any successful film/series are low on critics in this "woke" era. (Joker movie, Witcher3 as prime examples).

Barely remember what happened in the show but I do remember enjoying some of it. Tbh my fav part of the entire show was the hotel robot dude.

I'm afraid the value of the critics score on RT is considered worse than dirt these days. The user reviews are more useful, or they would be if RT stopped deleting them. RT is owned by Warner Bros and NBC Universal - hardly unbiased when it comes to reviewing TV/movies.
Another important point is that the critics score on RT is NOT the average score of the show. It is the percentage of approved critics that gave the show a positive review.
Even the audience score is the percentage of verified viewers who rated the show at 3.5 / 5 or higher.

I enjoyed season 1 of Altered Carbon and will definitely watch the second season.

Reviews are always subjective - mine would be 1/5.... it showed a lot of promise, but the books are basically pulp (fun pulp, but still pulp), and the TV show further dumbed it down, added a ridiculous sister angle, and further muddled an already fairly convoluted plot.

Go on IMDB then, bloody hell... :joy: Couldn't give a **** about critics job. They're are useless and so is there job.

I don't care what critics say either.... just pointing out it didn't get a 90% from them... as I already stated, reviews are always subjective - and MINE is that it's crap...

But general consensus is what matters and this case, its generally good. Critics don't bring more shows, public reviews do based on monetary return.

But to each their own, it's a great show. From cinematography to tension and story (mostly).

Why does public consensus matter to me? I already said reviews are subjective - MIINE is that it sucks..
