Shared Memory

Ok, I have a question concerning Shared Memory.

I recently got a computer with 512 DDR RAM and 32 MB of Shared Video Memory. However, I don't use the video card which came standard with the machine, rather installed a different kind, a 64mb GeForce.

My question is basically this. Is there a way to free up the RAM being shared by the default video card? My 512 shows as 480, even though that particular card is not being used. I appreciate the time those of you take to read this and even more so to those who take the time to respond.

    Many thanks!

I think you can adjust the shared memory in the bios.

    Disable it.

Some Mobo automatically disable the shared memory once a newly installed video card is detected. I m not sure if this is true in your case.

Some systems like HP's require that you disable the onboard video in the BIOS. Others like some eMachines have a Jumper on the motherboard.
