i made a shortcut to shutdown the computer i.e. shutdown.exe i ran this shortcut and nothing happened, so i shut it down normally now my comp wont boot or do anything i think its wiped my whole hard drive, any help???

...Somehow I doubt it has "wiped your whole hard drive". How far into the boot process do you make it?

Try running a repair installation of Windows.

Do you remember what the shortcut command was exactly?
Because it is possible to have a very small scipt to wipe your computer
I have it somewhere, but probably best not to post!
It's different to format, because there is no confirmation, and it removes the part of the partition that the harddrive requires, (and used from inside Windows).
Edit:
Oh and takes about a second to fully run

Of course it's possible to have small scripts to wipe a drive. I've got a few myself. However, making a shortcut to shutdown.exe wouldn't result in a formatted drive :/...

Yes ok I agree with that.

But... (here we go !)

i made a shortcut to shutdown the computer i.e. shutdown.exe
Is the user saying, a shortcut to shutdown.exe, or a shortcut that has the name shutdown.exe (exe itself not being a shortcut)

Anyway, you're probably more right :)

there is no boot process it stays put on the "acer screen" del to enter setup f12 for boot option, the shortcut was "shutdown.exe" on the desktop nothing works! grrrr
