So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

I think this 6200OC will work well on my old Dell 2400 as long as the card is not more than 256MB.

Frys was selling them at $39 per piece few weeks ago. Not sure if I can find any more now.

graphics on computers suck its nothing close to real life when are we going to see any revolution pc gaming mobile phone useage.

why do you say not more then 256mb?
i ran a 8400gs 512mb on my old p3 600mhz computer, no problems, all memory was present.

For some freaking dell reason, my Dell 2400 performs well only with card not more than 256mb.

I have tried 9500gt 512GB, 9400gt 1GB, HD4350 512mb and x1550 and none of them work better than the current card: geforce 5200 256mb. I used COD2 for testing and only this 5300 could give me mid 30s FPS and the rest were under 10FPS!!!!

Someone here mentioned the bottleneck effect and I think this applies to this secret Michael Dell's machine pretty well.

The way I see it with Michael Dell is, he does not care if your PC is low end and you want to game and upgrade.

These Dell machines do last a long time, very tough, but low end.

i dont even know how dell manages to stay in buisness how can gate-way be discontinued but dell stay in buissnes after the pc industry crashed in the early 2000's?

i couldnt believe the mass-guerrila marketing campaign surrounding the pre-release of the Xbox 360 i remember all this hype how its gonna change the way we play video games and its gona blow are minds and the graphics will be revoultionary and i recall peter moore being ittorgated by a reporter about the competeion that they faced from sony via the blu-ray player at a showcase of the 360 pre-launch at CES in late 05 and him mubbleing about the prospect noting that it would be to expensive for the average consumer to purchase at a tag of 3.000$ and the reporter saying that you do know they'll have built in the PS3 but him denying the rumor and continue to nag on the price point its simply to eostly and doesnt do much different than HD DVD player.

graphics on games these days certainly dont impress me very much launch of 360 ps3 wii were all lackluster in terms of graphics all i heard were lies spewed of every tid-bit on a game that you could imagine from the interface gameplay graphics at every E3 event held in the past decade

I believe your original post was self-contradictory, so I made some slight changes so that people have some idea what on earth you are talking about. I did not understand the "harped on and soforth" fragment, so I just chucked it.


On topic:

I threw together an HTPC from some outdated parts on an ITX motherboard- a 2.6 Ghz Celeron, 1Gb ram, and and PCI 8400gs. I have not run any extensive benchmarks, but I have run a GPU stability test to make sure the card would not overheat since it is passively cooled. The (512 mb) 8400gs scored between 47-52 FPS on the benchmark. Just as a comparison, my PCI-e 8500gt with 256mb scores around a 75 on the same benchmark, meaning 8500gt scores around 50% higher. However the PCI version of the 9400gt, which is basically the same as the 8500gt, starts at around 70$, while the 8400gs starts at 40$, meaning it costs 75% more while only yielding a 50% (or less, as my card is PCI-e, not PCI) increase in that benchmark.

I know this is nothing decisive, as it is just one benchmark, but it is something to think about. I'll try to install some other benchmarks on it so I can see what happens.
