Sound problems with HP550 laptop

Hi

I have a HP550 laptop that ive had for just over a year. Its Vista. Over that past few days the sound has started jumping, skipping, and slowing down. It pretty much sounds like a scratched CD that is skipping quite horrendously.
I don't have any idea what this could be so any help would be greatly appreciated.
If there’s any info needed that I have left off I'll get it up sharpish!

Hi Katie welcome to techspot,

Have you tried updating the sound drivers? Im not sure which version of VISTA you have but the two links below are for the Sound Drivers for you laptop are from the actual HP website. Just pick your OS.

VISTA Home Premium

Just scroll down the list till you find the audio driver and save to your desktop. If you are unsure of which VISTA OS you have you should have a sticker on the bottom with your liscence key it will say on there.
