I agree completely. But why does latency matter for a business? And for $400 more. I used internet for video conferencing in Rostov on Don Russia that had average 1100 ms latency, and it worked fine. Don't get me wrong, it was far from perfect, but the delay was still not as bad as the delay we see with a news report with an offsite interview.

Gaming? I can see it.

Have you ever tried to Remote Desktop into a server with high latency? One great way to make a critical mistake in that kind of environment is to add latency to a user experience. Been there, done that... no thanks.

Latency also maters when testing performance metrics in other IT fields. Shoot, even a web developer would struggle to dial in and test page loading or web service performance when having to add a random number to his test cases. I can just imagine how frustrating it would be.

Its not just tech support where low latency matters.

Video is the one area you can get away with it as most programs buffer the streams.

You suck at math in English. How can 40 MB of data cost you $5,000 a month? The average "erotic art" photo set, is pushing 1 GB. By your count, it would take you about 2 years and around $40,000 to download it.

I only mentioned the price I did because that is something I know first hand.
I was in Karaikal on business and met a couple at Breeze Bar there that was from Maldives, and they mentioned internet costs there, but I didn't get any specifics.

I actually had plans to spend a few days there in Malé but I had to change my schedule and never made it.

Interesting bit of bad news for Musky. His satellites are not surviving solar storms, and that makes it sound simple to fix, but what is happening is that the Starlink satellites are falling out of orbit. WTF? Maybe the great maker is wreaking astronomer's karma on Starlink?

Guess what, "MB" is "megabyte", NOT "Megabit". So, learn English and the technical terms before you start insulting people's intelligence.

And BTW, if you're denoting internet speed you have to add an "S", after "Mb". In other words 40 Megabits per second would be stated as "40 Mbs"

FYI, the lowest tier of Verizon FIOS is 100 Mbs unlimited, and, at present is costing me $45.00 USD a month. So maybe you should still take my advice and move...

I tried getting every cell-based related internet that was available out at my house (ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile) as well as other terrestrial-based internet, but none of the cell providers that came out could get a signal, something to do with radio interference or low signal and they couldn't guarantee service so they took their equipment off my house (not by my choice) and told me to try a competitor. lol

All I could get was DSL through ATT (and they admitted to making a mistake on their website that as a result allowed me to be the only one on my street to have internet). My neighbor right next door to me couldn't even get it when asking the service tech doing my install. For years, I shared my internet with him as a result (ran a cable under my driveway directly into his house). Two families sharing 25Mbs. Sad at this day and age... haha

I signed up for Starlink the day it was offered and was on the waiting list (was originally scheduled to be installed by the end of last year, but got pushed back to mid-2022). That was a massive blow for me...

Around the same time, mid-November of last year, an opportunity for high-speed internet popped up on my street finally through Comcast. I jumped on it since I work from home and own a small business (software company). I had to negotiate with them to do the install (signed 3 separate contracts with them back and forth concessions) at a cost of over $13,000 to do the construction. Everyone on my street can thank me for now having access to high-speed internet. It's truly sad the state of high-speed internet for last mile customers...

I was in a similar situation with my house. We went with HughesNet for a while, but worked at trying to get terrestrial access. The problem was that the access road to my house is 2 miles long and there are only 5 families on the entire route. We were able to work out a deal with Fidelity Communications, and they ran a line the entire length of the road, to each house, and did all the cable routing in each residence for almost 25 grand, which I guess was not too bad since they had to install a node (I think that's what they called it) just for our road, and we all split the costs equally.

They even gave us all a 10% discount on all Fidelity services if we agreed to keep the land trimmed 4 feet back along a 160 ft section of the road.

Sadly, my neighbors are oblivious to it. haha Ah well...

Comcast was not very friendly to work with and it took 4 separate contracts over the course of 4 years (3 within the last year) that I literally signed with them and then they would come back a few days later and cancel with new terms, despite my assurances that I could pay for the entire cost in one payment if needed. They were so skittish you'd never know they churn billions a quarter in profit. Just pathetic. It's real evidence they are in the business to help themselves rather than their customers (I was a former business customer for years prior at another location too but it doesn't matter to them).
